Kevin Whalum - I Live For You (2016) (SOM Exclusive!)

Returning home after a hard day, and I could not imagine what awaits me today. The reason for that is absolutely unexpected release of a new album of one of the best Jazz artist of our time! Not only that, I am completely unaware of its output, in addition, it was full-time job, which deserves special attention. No doubt remained, it was necessary only to begin to listen, to share with you an overview of such a wonderful gift.

First, let's agree that who is Kevin Whalum, is the brother of one of the greatest jazz musicians of our time, Kirk Whalum, as far as I could understand before, brother always remained in the shadow of his brother, and in most cases engaged in musical component. There were in his repertoire some great plates, in which he wandered between the styles from RnB to the Jazz and on to the Soul. Now it's time to plunge into the Gospel, so we gradually move to what is this work. This Gospel project involved using neighboring styles (RnB/Soul/Jazz). To make it more clear, let's define that the Gospel can sound absolutely on any, all matter in the text and the information carried by artist/track/album. So yes, it is the Gospel, but what Gospel!

Musically this disc lies between the different actors of our time, of course I heard that work in a big way in the Underground inclined path, and there is nothing wrong with that. For Underground party is the best sound I've heard. The sound quality and harmony of the plate at a good level, there are no claims. And it would seem that something has to distinguish the record from the same Kem, just distinguishing feature is the vocals. I in no way want to offend Kem data, but these are two completely different cake each lusciously sweet on her. Kevin is so chic able to control his vocal music that goes by the wayside. But do not think that the music is played sparingly, musicality can be heard from every sound emissions Whalum, notes like pouring, thanks to good mastering.

I'm very sorry that these artists are lost on their home studio recording as wonderful plates, which are available only to a limited number of people - just because no one wants to invest in promotions such singers. Once again, I note how the actor is undervalued and I hope that he is still to come.

In your place, I would have listened to this work, in any case, in spite of the subjective attitude to any of the styles mentioned above. This is real music, which formed my soul, perhaps one of the best records of the year and I will include it in our annual top.

What is it like: Kem, Eric Benet, Anthony Hamilton
I liked: Pretty Bird, Somebody Somewhere, Take A Stand (Ft Crisis.), Come Back Home, Somebody Said, Strong
